Overview
Kennedy Energy Park is a hybrid renewable energy facility located near Hughenden in North Queensland. Jointly owned by Windlab and Eurus Energy, the project combines wind turbines, solar photovoltaic panels, and battery storage to make use of complementary renewable resources.
The system brings multiple generation technologies together at one site, with a shared connection to Queensland's electricity network. This integrated approach demonstrates how wind and solar generation can complement each other while battery storage provides additional operational flexibility.
Key Features
Approximately 43 MW of wind generation
15 MW of solar generation
2 MW / 4 MWh battery storage
Integrated renewable energy infrastructure
Connection to Queensland's electricity grid
Challenge
Wind and solar resources vary with weather and time of day. Coordinating different generation technologies requires careful system integration and grid connection planning.
Solution
Kennedy Energy Park combines wind, solar, and battery storage within a single facility, allowing the technologies to contribute to a coordinated renewable energy system.
Outcome
The facility reached full commercial operation in May 2024. Its documented operating capacity is 50 MW across wind and solar generation, supported by battery storage.
